The caliper slides on these trucks are very vulnerable to rust. The surfaces need to be clean, flat, and lubed with anti-seize or high-temp brake grease. Ideally they should be cleaned up every 6 months or so.

You folks in the rust belt are so lucky, I can't blame anything on rust...Mark

i replaced my brake hoses last year. i thought i was carefull but i guess i could have damaged one in the process.

ive cleaned the rails and reapplied anti-seize.

the fsm says the outer pad shouldnt have any free play between it and the caliper. mine seems to have a considerable amount. could this cause my problem?

also, in the fsm, and that sticky, it shows only one support spring. My truck had 2 springs. one on each side of the support key. my new caliper only has 1
Should i have one or 2?

Ive read that If its a bad hose, you should loosen the bleeder and fluid will spurt out then the wheel will spin free. But mine doesn't spurt, it just runs out a little and it also doesn't free up the wheel.

is there a test to determine if a caliper is bad?

the shop said the one they sold me was probly bad and gave me another one, but the chances of that seem slim. so i just wanna make sure its my caliper for sure. because as soon as i put fluid in this new caliper i cant return it.

Also does anybody know why my truck has 2 support springs, yet the new caliper only has one?
