Borgeson steering shaft
I have a '93 2500 4X4 and am interested in the Borgeson steering shaft to get rid of some of the play in the steering. Have any of you had experience with these? They look way better than the stock shaft.
Thanks, John
Thanks, John
Re:Borgeson steering shaft
Yes they are a big improvement over the OEM coupler but it is only one part of the system that can get sloppy.
Other items to check- drag link, tie rod ends, steering box pitman shaft, mounting plate (4x4 only, prone to cracking), Upper and lower king pins, wheel bearings, worn spring bushings, loose U-bolts, broken spring center bolts

Everything is new or fine in the front, but I think the steering shaft is the problem. I'm looking for someone who has actually installed one and what the difference was.
Thanks, John

Re:Borgeson steering shaft
Hey John,
I do have one on my truck and I think it was worth the cost just to get rid of the factory coupler. When I put the Borenson on I was hoping it would fix the sloppiness I was feeling only to find that the OEM coupler was masking other problems. As soon as I put the shaft on the other problems became evident.

Have someone work the wheel back and forth (w. motor off and column unlocked) while looking at the steering shaft in relation to the coupler on the steering box. You can probably do it yerself by grabbing hold of the shaft and rotating it.
In my case, the Borgeson eliminated about 15 degrees of steering wheel "slop".

made mine much better too, I could rotate 15* like said above, along with grab the shaft and wiggle it all over the place inside the stock coupler.
I paid way too much for mine tho, I guess summit and/or local 4x4 shops can get them for $140. I bought mine off the borgeson website per suggestion here, paid way more.
