Boost VS EGTs

HI All,

I'll be towing alot of sod here shortly....the trailer weight will be a maximum of about 14K (lawn is big and I'll be making many trips so as not to exceed the GVW of the trailer)......I haven't gotten up the nerve to tap the manifold yet to install the EGT guage and I have heard that it is possible to exceed safe limits w/ a relatively stock truck.....My question is, can I use my boost guage as a rough indicator of how hot the EGTs are?.....Anybody have any rough idea what sustained running at 15 lbs boost is in terms of EGTs?...Are there any charts or formulas that can be used so I know how or hard or easy I need to be on the accelerator?....I won't be speeding, since most of the roads
are windy 2 lane roads although there will be a stretch of highway I can run it up to 55 or so....I usually tow 3500 lbs or so regualarly for the lawn care business I am in but I will be taking it easy with all that additional weight.

Thanks for any and all help

You need a pyro. Just pop a hole in the downpipe and weld it in post turbo for now---at least then you've got a ballpark. Just my opinion.

There is no direct correlation between boost and EGT's There are way too many variables like; RPM, exhaust size, air filter type. how dirty the air filter is, loaded weight, road grade, gearing, etc.
It is preffered to have the pyro probe pre turbo. It is very easy, just drill and tap.

If you have a leak it's easy to have low boost and really toasty EGT. Boost gauges are fun to watch, but you gotta have a pyro.
