blinkers and brake lights out
I was driving the other day and my blinkeers and brake lights quit working. I checked all the fuses and the flashers the are good. i dont even get blinker lights in the dash. I suspect the blinker switch but would that have anything do do with brake lights. I have power at the brake switch by the pedal and it works fine. looked at all the wires nothing burned or melted. i am stumped. What now? were can i find a turn switch?
ok tries that put a new multifunction switch on this morning and still nothing. I have power to the fuses and there good. When i ground the flasher it works. Where do i look next?
If it helps, your blinkers & brake lights use the same filament in the bulbs. Power for the brake lights feeds from the brake light switch into the turn signal switch. Then out to the individual lamps. from the switch back both functions use the same wiring, bulbs & sockets.
Though unlikely, you could have all the bulbs burned out too. Have you checked them all??
You could have wiring damage or corroded connectors under the cab/bed also.
Have you checked the grounds at the tail rear lamps. It is possible they have lost their grounds? This will be the 18 gauge Gray wire. they both ground through the same common connection. This ground feeds back to the 12Gauge black wire under the dash to the right of the steering column.
Do you have power coming out of the switch to on the wires to the rear lamps??
I believe these are circuits D8 (18 Gauge Dark green with yellow tracer) & D7 (18 Gauge Brown with Yellow tracer) Test this with either the brake pedal depressed or the blinkers on. If you do then you have a problem with the rear wiring & bulbs.
This test can be made at the Blue connector under the dash.

Ok so I checked those wires at the blue plug no power in eather side of plug. I have been chasing wires all over but it would help if I knew what color wires have to do with the brakes and the blinkers. Where do they run. What is the path

Check the wires that feed FROM the fuse block to the turn signal switch. In other words, the wire that is on the back side of the turn signal fuse. I remember on my 93 that the connectors on the end of that wire had become hot and it lost its' connection. Turn the turn signal switch to the left or right position and push/wiggle the appropriate wire around on the back side of the fuse block and see if anything works, even intermittently.
