Question Bhaf

OK, I know a lot of you guys have the BHAF. Don't they draw hot air from the engine? If so, how can that be beneficial? Just another stupid question, but that's how it looks on Hoss's photos and the Cummins photos. Thanx

Well, theres been a lot of discussion about that...
If you put it behind something liek teh old smokey mount( in teh stickey), its not drawing all that much air from teh engine, but from teh "air tube" that fed the original filter.

How much "hot air" it draws and what effect its having on teh engine have been debated, bu tno-one has ever realy posted numbers...

I can say that I can tell a difference between teh stock filter adn teh BHAF, and having that greater air flow sure seems to help the engien out.

I think a LOT of folks fail to make the connection that the stock/OEM filter box (on my '93 anyway) draws 100% cold outside air from just under the passenger's headlight.

Remove the OEM affair and mod it with a bigger intake horn (the OEM design is for it's muffling action) . . .

Or just build a MUCH bigger version of it such that it'll accommodate a standard full size BHAF (the one C/PRD/ references below) and shoehorn it in there . . .

http://store.airflo.com/b105006.html I used an old stainless square trash can and made my old smokey mount! Worked like a charm.

Hot Engine Air

I had an edge programer on my ford gasser and it gave the option of intake air temp i tried this with and with out the heat shield on my cai and the only time i notice hot engine air was at idle and then it would only climb a little but one i accelerated it went right back to outside air temp. Me I wouldn't worry about hot engine air. Just my opion though.

well talked to napa about the wix/napa filter which is a duralite i think looks like it and they want $70 for it and not even in stock, i'll try case or john deere and if they want gold i guess ordering from air flow is the best.
