Which is better

Well i am about to come home for Iraq in about 5 days, so I guess I can start buy parts for my truck that I bought over here.
Now the Question at hand is which one is better
a 14cm
b 16cm
or a wastegated 14 or 16cm. for the turbo.

now the things I plan on doing to the truck are fuel pin, 3200 spring, pump fun, and a stage IV, plus the air filter. so which one would be better for my truck. Now the things I do with it, drive it every day for the most part, do a little 4x4 in the mountains, and pull and 10K loaded camper at least twice a month. so i need a little help please. one more thing it is not in my sig it is a auto

I would say either go with a WG14 or a non wg 16 for the auto. I was very pleased with the 16, but also like my 16. as for the airfilter, go with a BHAF, Ive had stock ,K&N, AFE, and the BHAF and I like it the most. Thanks for your service!

Thanks for your service! If you're gonna be pulling in the rockies, I'd look real hard at a 12cm w/g. You've got to pack the air in to make power in that thin air. I know there's a couple fellas running hy-9's on 1st gens in the high altitude with good results.

Do not waste your money on a 14 cm WG housing. They aren't worth what people charge for them. If you can't keep boost numbers under control with an 18.5 cm or a 12 cm WG housing, you just need a bigger turbo.

With the mods you are planning and the altitude you run the 12 cm WG housing is better for you anyway. Also don't waste money on the Stage IV, it is not worth the extra cost over the Stage III.

Welcome home and thanks to you and your comrades in their fight for freedom.
I run a 16 and it serves me well with the a518. I need to step up a notch and get a bigger turbo to utilize the full potential of my injectors. But to be honest, I think I need to replace my head bolts first.

I had no clue on the price of a 14. I pulled my hx35 and 14wg off craigslist for a shade under $200.

Letting a turbocharged engine breath is different than doing so for a naturally aspirated engine. Sure, a small block chevy would benefit from headers and free-flowing mufflers. In a turbocharged application, those principles go out the window. Many people view the 12 as a restriction, which is true. The 18.5 is also a restriction, just to a lesser extent. However, looking at the big picture, the most significant restriction BY FAR is the 12V head, almost to the point of making exhaust housing size a non-issue when considering peak temps. Where housing size does matter is part throttle driveability and this is especially true in the thinner air associated with high altitude. A 12cm housing will spool the turbo earlier and faster for a given amount of fuel than a larger housing. More air with the same amount of fuel=not having to shift into 3rd pulling Vail Pass The good news is that housings are relatively cheap and there's often somebody close by that will loan one out for a weekend. Try a 12cm out and see firsthand how it behaves. It may very well not suit your particular driving style...only one way to find out. I've switched from the 18.5 to the 12 and back probably a dozen times and I still think the 12 is superior. my .02

I think you need to decide how much horsepower/fuel you want. If you're going to keep stock injectors then I would say go with the 12cm and a stage 3 compressor side. However, if you plan on making a towable 300hp or more than save the money and just get a bigger turbo like Dave said.
