Best clutch for a work truck

The clutch on my truck is going funky. So I am going to pull the trans and see WTH is going on. If the clutch is going south or something is in need of replacement what kind of clutch should I get. I looked into a clutch called ZOOM Found one that would hold up to 825 ft lb something about being a centrifical pressure plate??? Not sure what that means but any other ideas? I really don't want to spend a fortune on this since it still needs more work. Not tomention it won't be a play truck for a long time and right now it needs to work, so driveability is a must.

go with the OE Sachs clutch, they take a lot of abuse for the money.

when you remove the clutch you may find that the stock lining is barely worn if you've not turned up the pump. The throwout bearing may have fatigued the springs and cracked but the throwout bearing overheating and destroying the clutch is hardly the clutch's fault for failing. Stock Sachs is my opinion.

What is a stock clutch capable of handling? I want this thing into the 250-300HP range not to far down the road so I will be making some decent numbers. And is the stocker a 12.25 or s it a 13"?

The OE sachs will hold 300-350 no problem for towing. They don't like sled pulling and high RPM launches though.

Not to hijack but my only complaint of the sachs unit is it tends to be grabby/chattery when starting a heavy load, is there a cure for this?

Montana I have noticed that also with mine. It will chatter some if I am trying to move something heavy. Are there any differences in the clutches between the "rag" and the NV4500? Is the Sachs clutch that much cheaper than the aftermarket ones?

The NV4500 in the second gens only had a 12" clutch, not one of Dodge's best ideas. You can upgrade the 2nd gens to a 13" but I think you need to change the flywheel too. The southbend's are nice and smooth but they are not cheap. I would think a good clutch shop should be able to rebuild the sachs and get rid of the chatter but I do not know that for a fact. I'm not sure if the sachs is still avaiable new.

The SB Con-O is smoother than the Sachs - but under no circumstances should you cheap out and buy the 12" version. You will break the center out of it. If you get one, get the 13".

If you truck is jumpy on clutch engagement, check the engine and trans mounts as well as the driveshaft support bearing.

A Getrag and a stock NV4500 use the same clutch disc.

The Sachs is the best value out there. There are cheaper aftermarket clutches but they are all 12". 12" clutches will hold the power but the centers break out of them after a while.
