Red face bent push rod

Hey guys, yeah the problem was not my head gasket, pulled my head this morning and had everything off, went to pull all my push rods and number three exhaust would not come out. finished pulling the head and found out y. I think that someone tried adjusting the valves before and tightened number three exhaust at the wrong time started the engine bent the push rod but didn't realize what they had done.

I you have any Ideas let me know, the piston, valve and tappet all look good, anything else I should check?

thanks for all the help
Jesse

Just check to make sure the valve is sealing, sometimes when they hit the piston they get bent. Lay the head upside down and fill the chamber with mineral spirits. If it doesn't leak into the exhaust port, put 'er back together with a new pushrod.

Pull the lifter and check the wear pattern, and check the lobe on the cam. Make sure they look just like the others and are not pitted or scorched.

don't know if you have ever looked at the cam lifter setup on the ctd's but they have tappets lifters instead of hydraulic lifters, and to check them you have to pull the entire front off the motor and pull the lifters after you pull the cam not really a quick thing. tappet slides up and down easily and looks ok.

unless I am mistaken

the 5.9 are known to bend push tubes on high idle time engines in cold climates, valves will sieze in guides and bend push tubes.

You can also bend 'em over-revving the engine.

It's not a good idea to exceed 3500 RPM, that's when you run into valve float.
