Bearings

So, the engine im sticking in this ol girl has 295K on it, I checked the rod bearings, and aside from a little dirt and debris in them, they are in nice shape. Im gonna run them, Would you guys even check the mains if the rods are in good shape. The reason I ask is safety. I dont have a engine stand strong enough for this engine, so I have the engine on 4 jack stands about 2ft in the air, and I have a safety chain around my car hoist arm above the engine and its tight, but I sure dont want to disturb this hulk with me under it torqueing the mains down.

I would do them all over honestly. If you have the rods out, why not put $50 bearings in them?

I think when I did mine it was about $59 for the main bearing kit from cummins east.

Right now the funds have been depleated rapidly, and 120 bucks for bearings right now after buying the clutch, adapter kits, paying me, and all the gaskets and seals, the owner said if the bearings look like they will go a while yet, leave them, and they do. I popped a main last night, and they honestly look really good. No scratches, or deep grooves at all, and they are nice and clean. This ol girl is in great shape aside from some moron adjusting the valves about half to tight. Intake was about 6 and the exhaust was about 9. Some people shouldnt have tools. LOL

Yep, and Yep, and runnin it!!

If we didnt need to replace the flacking camshaft, we would have bearinged it. Cam wasnt cheap at all, and the lifters were just as bad.

if you think that's bad when I rebuilt my motor I set everything to the proper cummins spec and had lots of assembly lube and whatnot in everything. broke the motor in and after when I went to reset the valve lash both the intake and exhaust had tightened up so much I couldn't get my thinnest feeler in any valves, exhaust or intake. I think the smallest I have is "0.004 I almost crapped my pants.

I think it had tightened up just from the oil getting in everything. You know, fluid tolerances and stuff. And to be honest, I'm not sure but it's possible some of the valves were either not entirely closing, or right on the fringe of not closing. It ran perfect and sounded beautiful. I'm just glad none of the valves made contact with the pistons...

Check the thrust and piston coolers really well, more so being a manual transmission.

I wouldn't reuse them, if there were signs of something imbedded in the bearing. 150$ now is much cheaper than what could happen.
