Call Autometer and send it back. I had a bad one and I know at least one other member here reported two bad. They must've had a run of bad pyros at Autometer. One way to test it is to connect an ohmmeter to the thermocouple leads and watch the readout. If it is significantly different that what the gauge reflects, you probably have a bad gauge.

ok, i talked with Corey at autometer technical service... (815-899-0801) and he was aware of the problem... here is the nutshell. the Probe and Gauge setup that they have sold for the last (approx) 2 months have not matched well. the person that made the orig. probe stopped making them. and this one is slow reacting. they are in the process and production on a new setup should start within a week or tow but basically the last 2 month of production is slow a molasas in wintertime. i will be sending in my gauge head and he will be sening me an old stye gauge and probe. he said i could share this with all of you but that he had a limited # of older stuff, so if that runs out some may have to wait until the new production stuff is finished. here is what you need to send and where you need to send it.

you only need to send the gauge head, leave the probe and wiring in place. he even said you can cut the power and ground just behind the gauge so you don't have to mess with wiring. Include a not in the package explaining that you want the older gauge and probe because yours is slow.

I know i have recommended autometer to many of you and i stand by the reccomendation, i am glad to see they are fixing the problem, however, i would not buy a pyro from them at this point until you know that they have the new production stuff (or older style)! they faulty probe can be identified buy the tip. the new faulty probe is bullet shaped. the old style has and obvious step in it. hope this helps everyone with these gauges! i will be sending mine out today, so if you could all wait a day to send yours so that i am sure to get the peieces i need that would be great

I think I'd kinda like a slow pyrometer. It would at least make me feel better.

I was pretty impressed w/Autometer's customer service myself. They took mine back and replaced it, no questions asked, even after I had painted it and of course cut the wires as well.

Just got off the phone with Jim at autometer. He told me to sit back and wait 3-4 weeks til they get this problem sorted out. Maybe they are out of the old stuff now .
