Another TPS question

Im having the same TPS problems jumping in and out of overdrive, I assume they are TPS related. However the speedometer is acting funny also. Doesnt work most of the time, when it does it very erratic. I just bought the truck it is a 92 extended cab with 216,000 miles.

Update. I just bought this truck and it was very dirty uder the hood. Got out the simple green and pressure washer today. The old saying applies I guess "Cleanliness is next to godliness". The overdrive and speedo are working?? Must of been dirty?

If you are having speedometer trouble, that is the cause of the OD jumping in and out. The PCM looks at vehicle speed when determining whether or not to shift into OD. TPS is probably fine. The VSS is mounted on the trans or transfer case where you would expect a speedo cable to be. Sometimes the connection is flaky, and sometimes the drive gets rounded off, causing slippage.

Thats good to know. Do you think my cleaning under the hood is just a coincidence?

Probably. The wires in question aren't up there.

On a 2wd it's on the driver's side of the trans almost all the way to the rear. If you have a 5 speed there is a 90 degree speed adapter between the trans and the VSS that is prone to breakage.
