Another TPS - pot Question

Well, last week my speedo and OD didn't work for about 7miles. Then on the hyway it started working again and has been ever since. I caulked it up to a freak occurance.

Today my OD will not engage. So I was thinking that I will do the potentiometer thing like ouchman did (Thanks by the way).

But before I go cutting things apart is there anything I should check first?
Will my OD button still function? Is there any bad things that can happen?

I plan on doing this Thursday afternoon, I have to go to NYC this weekend. 550 mile round trip, and I need OD.

Thanks in advance,
Michael

If you decide to try my fix - leave enough wire coming off the TPS to re-wire it if you decide to.

Ouchman, did the OD button still work to lock out of OD? I picked up al the parts today @ Radio Shack. Total $14.53 Pot, ****, Wires, Shrink.

Thanks again, Anyone else try this yet?

Yes the button still works. I think there are a number of people who have done this by now - you're gonna love it.

Since you said the speedo quit also, I suspect a problem with your speed sensor or the wiring to it. If it is, the pot won't fix this problem. Check for posts covering the speed sensor (VSS) and speedo problem for tips.

Michael, if the speedo isn't working the OD will not work either - even if you replace the TPS with a pot.

You can use your wiring diagram to add a mystery switch for OD if you can't track down the problem on Thursday.
