Another fine aftermarket part!! :(

Was getting my truck ready for the Turbo upgrade (12cm W/G hot side), and one thing that was on the list was a new Fuel lift pump. Fuel pressure was 4.7 idle, 4.3 cruise, and 3.7 WOT (Was 6.5 at idle in 2003 when checked). So, I bought a Napa pump, didn't look too close (my bad), got it home and it was the one with the screw on inlet side, PN M73060. I remember reading a thread saying these were recalled for the screw working loose, but I already had my factory original one off, so I put a dab of blue locktight on the screw threads and snugged it well. Put it on the truck fired it up and it ran better than it has in a while. Idle stayed solid, power seemed better. Drove it about 10 miles to check it out on the big hill up the road, and back to the house and shut it off.

Went back out about 1/2 hour later, fired it up and headed for the Power Shop for my turbo upgrade. Made it about 100 feet from my driveway and "BLAAAAaaahhhh, plup" dead in the middle of the road. Had to have my wife drag it back to the house with the Subaru (how embarassing). Cracked the injectors to re-bleed and NOTHING came out!!! "not nice words"...

Threw the factory pump back on, bled the filter housing, spun it over until fuel was flying everywhere, tightened the injector nuts, and WALLA, running truck.

Checked the inlet and outlet pressure on the new Fuel lift pump before and after failure, along with checking my original pump (used a vacumn/press gauge and hand pumped them to max reading):

Original: inlet 12-14" vacumn, outlet 4.5-5 psi

New before install: inlet 17" vaumn, outlet 8 psi
after failure: inlet 0" vacumn, oulet 3.5 psi

The pump is still pushing, just not sucking, which sucks.... No external leaks, just won't pull fuel. Called NAPA and talked to the manager, he's ordering the good one for me Monday morning.

Sorry for the long post, but had to vent a little.

are you talking about a vacuum pump or a fuel lift pump?
