Alignment questions

So my truck is toed out pretty bad so I got to looking at the front end and its all tight. After that I went to go break my tie rod clamps loose and turn my steering bar but after looking at the threads on the tie rod ends they both look the same (as in if I turned the steering bar it would just move both the wheels left to right instead of in and out)..........................this cant be right and sometimes when im on the ground flippin this way and that way I can get confused

But I had a friend look at it and he agreed with me that the threads are not opposite but then I had my old boss (20 yrs exp mechanic) look at it as he was leavin the shop in a hurry to get home and he said it was correct ( as in sayin me and my buddy are wrong ). But he did look at it very briefly and couldnt look twice because he was late for something.

So my question is..........do you have to take off each tie rod end and turn it individually to adjust toe in and toe out or are they supposed to be opposite thread and all you should have to do is turn the steering bar.

I just put mine on the rack at work to align it. I ran into the same thing. It seems that it is correct though. I just pulled a tape and set the toe old school style and then checked it with the machine.

So do you have to pull the tie rod off the spindle to turn the tie rod itself?

Yes, I had to pull it off to make the adjustment. It threw me at first too, don't feel bad.

No problem. I'm a newb on this site but it looks like everyone does their best to help out. Thought that I should try and do the same. That's what it's all about anyway.

I just replaced my tie rod ends on my 90 w250 and the left one is left hand threads, moog part #es2010l and the right one is right handed thread, moog part#es2010r. There must be some difference between yours and mine, because you center link adjust rod has right handed threads on both sides, weird. Seems like a lot of unnecessary work to set the toe in/out. What is your rig,2wd? ...Mark
