Nope. Tighter converter is the only thing that will reduce the temperature you see there.

with my converter and the sensor in the line I did not see temps higher than 190 pulling my 6500# camper though some of the largest hills (i says hills because that is what they would be to you folks in the west) here in PA. Temps in the pan (i switched locations for testing purposes while camping) on the trip home never got above 150.

You've got a locking TC and he doesn't, That's where the heat comes from.

Of course that's one 'plus' for those considering upgrading the 518 or replacing it with a 47RH.

I like the way the R's drop when the TC locks up, but I can tell by the boost gauge that the engine works going up and down rises on the hiway. I'll see a 3 - 6 lb variation in boost.

Id sure like to avoid putting a new tranny in. A new pan maybe and just be carefull. Eventually I will have to replace the tranny, then I can upgrade I guess.

I put on a Deraille pan when I rebuilt my 47RH.

I couldn't install it myself - no tools and worse no driveway - just a path

I took it to a tranny shop locally and they checked underneath 3 times as they added fluid checking for leaks.
I think we put in 17 or 18 qts. edit thing don't look that big sitting on the floor

That's why I'm dumping the A518.......... its a heat pump that requires a lot of attention/$$$ to make it live while towing on today's 70mph freeways. I rather invest in a lockup unit (47RH).

yes but even driving without it locked there is still a LOT less heat generated with the better converter. I left it unlocked just for comparison sake and on a few hills the and temps (sensor in line) never got hotter than 210.
