Re:93 250 charging trouble

Your regulator is part of the computer. Some guys have bypassed the regulator on the computer and converted back to the old style Mopar regulator.

Re:93 250 charging trouble

Is the regulator built in to the alternator and only controlled by the computer? or is it a seperate component external to the alternator?

Re:93 250 charging trouble

Welcome...

The regulator is part of the PCM on the engine. Check your crank sensor for operation. If the computer doesn't know the engine is running it won't engage the alternator or A/C systems as well as many of the automatic transmission stuff.

Search crank sensor and you will find many many posts on this..

The alt. is externally regulated. The regulator is part of the computer.

Re:93 250 charging trouble

Seems like I remember reading that the pcm controlls a relay to operate the alternator. It wont turn it on without a signal from the crank sensor. So you could have a bad crank sensor, bad wiring, bad pcm. bad relay or bad alternator.

Re:93 250 charging trouble

Thanks for all the input! I believe I have figured out my problem! I have a bad crank sensor. I disconnected the sensor and momentarily touched a jumper between the 5 volt reference wire and the signal return wire and it tried to charge but it cut back off so I think it would be safe to say that my regulator is ok. I could brush the jumper back and forth and it would charge normally. This also explains why my AC doesn't work and why I was experiencing the stubborn OD shift that some of the guys were talking about.I wonder if this could cause the cruise control not to work properly? I called Advance Auto Parts and they said they only had a listing for a manual trans application. I wonder if it would make a difference?Anyway, you guys have really enlightened me on this problem and I really appreciate allthe help!Any more input on this will be greatly accepted! Thanks again! ;D
