92 diesel that idles full throttle ????

When you start it is is wide open throttle..linkage is not stuck or anything that we can tell..an injection pump had been put on a lil while back & all was ok but idled a lil low & the guy that installed it was going out of buisness but he turned a screw on the pump( i think) somewhere & all he said was you didnt see me do that..what ever that meant & then a few days later its idling very high..any ideas as to what this might be?
Thanks,Brian

I would think what has happened, he turned the fuel screw, if turned to far it can run away. Try turning it in a turn.

Hi National, and welcome to DTR! The adjustment you're after is the full fuel screw. It will be facing the firewall about 1/3 the way down the pump. It has nothing to do with the two throttle linkage stop screws, it's a whole separate deal. You'll likely need a long flat blade screwdriver to turn it and a 1/2'' (or 13mm) wrench to break the stopnut loose. Back the screw out 1/2 turn at a time, starting the engine afer each try, untill it idles. Let me see if I can find some pics for you...

If you can't get your screw driver in there, I always use a 6mm closed end wrench on it.

With a runaway wouldn't you turn the screw out to stop a runaway.

I think these trucks had a problem way back with the fuel pin breaking or sumpin like dat. I think that I would check my fuel pin first though.and welcome to the site of the slippery slope.

Isnt there something inside our pumps that produces full fuel until it starts, that's why we start so fast. Maybe it is sticking? I know PB or wannadiesel know what I'm talking about.

Oh, and welcome to the site,
Michael

PS, at first I thought this thread was about me

Take your VIN number to a Dodge dealer and see if your truck was involved in the recall to replace the injection pumps due to a runaway problem. There are still a few out there that were missed. Here is a link to some info on the recall http://dodgeram.info/tsb/recalls/605.htm
