I do a majority of my own work. it is leaking in back of the pump, almost seems like the pump is coming apart. but it still runs great.

the answer to your question is that these trucks are WORTH FIXING and are very repairable

yes, most of them leak, but if you do most of your own work the leaks can be stopped very cheaply

leaking fuel pump will affect start up, so get to that right away

it's up to all of us to keep these 1st gens on the road!

There is a kit available that has every seal, o-ring etc. that goes in the pump. It's part # is DGK121 I think and it's available from any Bosch pump shop and also on E-bay etc. It's cheep, expect to pay around $20.

The pump is a little fussy to work on, but if you take your time and lots of pictures it's nothing most good wrenchers can't handle. Also, in the "sticky" at the top of the page there is a ton of info about the pump and how to fix it.

You'll have to pull the pump and reseal it with the kit brainfade mentioned. Cost is very low, time investment is a Saturday. Read the articles about it in the sticky, be slow and careful, and keep everything clean. Oh, and keep everything clean, too.

Then clean it again, ... I have Brakleen, tootbrushes compressed air and paper towels on hand for the purpose. Oh and a sheet of cardboard underneath to catch things I drop

So, does that mean it should be clean? Mark

It's hard to overemphasize that point.

Like surgical room clean.
I got a tub and filled it with diesel, kept all the parts in there while working on it I was amazed by all the junk that had settled in the bottom of the tub when I was done re sealing my pump.
