90 non-intercooled injector pump ???

I have a 90 CTD non-intercooled and it's leaking fuel out of the injector pump.

It's coming from between the distribution plate and the back of the pump. Can I fix this myself in the truck, or will I have to pull the pump and have someone do it for me?

I was told by a "shop" it needs rebuilt. The truck runs great so I don't want to mess with the pump timing and all that. Plus I don't have the tools to do the pump timing. Or the $2k for them to replace the pump with a rebuilt one.

Oh yeah and what pump is on this thing.

Thanks

Tony

Well, some guys have had success doing it on the truck, and some guys have not. If you have easy access to the o-ring, you have pulled the pump head too far.

At the very least, I'd take it off the engine. Not hard to do once you get it off, but I'd prefer to be able to put the pump in a vice and stick it with the delivery valves upward. Lessens the chance of stuff falling all over the place when you remove the hydraulic head.

WHile you have it apart, replace the o-ring on the back side of the AFC motor. It's a flat plate on the engine side of the pump- impossible to get to when installed.

If you will search back far enough, there are about three threads on here that have tons of good information on re-sealing the VE pump.

I was pointed in the direction of a real good non-professional home-made DVD and booklet demonstrating the entire job from start to finish.(E-BAY I think)

I can't remember if it was $50 for the booklet AND the DVD, or if it was $50 each = $100; whatever, it was worth every penny.

I was a little apprehensive at first, but I plunged right in and went at it.

It made me feel real good when that engine roared to life on about the second revolution, after me having that pump in a million pieces and re-installing it.

That truck recently sat un-started for five weeks; it fired immediately when I started it the other day.

I would not hesitate to fly in on another one.

I cant speak for now, but back when I ordered a bunch of reseal kits, there was a national shortage on them on account of the new watered-down ULSD fuel causing so many to leak.

2k for a pump job sounds like a lot.

Pulling a VE pump is like doing an intake/carb swap on a small block chevy...

Its a Bosch Rotary VE pump ... they used them on early volkswagens too.
