Question 89 fuel injectors

I got My injectors rebuilt some time ago and now I got a chance to put them back in. I've never replaced injectors on a cummins before so if someone here can help Me out I'll appreciate it.
When I removed the injectors I didn't remember to check if they had copper washers where they sit so I asked for a set of copper washers for them, now I put them back in the engine and of course after a couple months not running I have to bleed the system. I got fuel to the injectors but the batteries were drained by that time and the engine would crank slow and not start with the gas pedal all the way to the floor. I have bleed My share of engines and always get them running but I would like to know if there is something about this copper washers that would prevent it from running.

Thanks for any help.

Being an 89 did you get the injectors washers with the sleeves?

To my knowledge the Non-IC (9mm) injectors use a different thickness washer then the IC (7mm) injectors. Now would this affect the prime in the fuel system...I doubt it. When you did your injector replacement did you get new horse shoe washers for the return fuel line? I did not and have had a heck of a time trying to get the originals to seal back up.

I don't know what You mean, like sleeves around the nozzle tip?

Trashingcows, I didn't see any copper washers when I removed mine, I just assumed they should have them since that is what I read but I'm not sure if an 89 engine should have them. I did get the return line washers sealed right.

Do 89 engines come with copper washers at all? if so what thickness?

Thanks.

you should have copper washers to seal the injector in the bottom of the bore. And i believe the sleeves were only needed if using new style injectors in the 9mm heads....or visa versa

Ok so I keep the copper washers in, thank You.
A couple years back while reading threads I found some discussion about different thickness washers, I hope I got the right ones.

The copper washers were probably left behind in the injector bores when you pulled the injectors. They need to be there to make the seal.

If you are using newer 7mm injectors in your non-IC truck (9mm stock) you use these adapter washers to make it work.

BTW, if you run advanced timing, apparently you want thinner washers to drop the injector tip to keep the spray in the piston bowl as the injection event would occur a few more degrees before the piston reaches TDC.

I did check on the injector holes and there was nothing there unless it bonded to the injector seat, is this common? Wish I would've looked at the injectors when I was pulling them.
I will finish bleeding it and start it, or else I'll have to pull all the injectors and look in the seats again.

Thanks.

They are a copper washer so it should be pretty obvious if they are in the bottom of the injector bore.

Here is a thread I did recently about doing the injectors in my 89 motor....

Yes, I followed Your thread when You pulled Your injectors. Did the copper washers stay on the injector seats/bore or they came out with the injectors?

Thanks.

I'v had the injectors out of my truck several times and the washers usually were stuck to the injectors. That dont mean they couldnt get stuck down in the bore though.

Ask the shop that redid them if they kept your old washers.
I suspect they tossed the old ones while doing the rebuild.
I've NEVER had them stay in the bores, they have always come out with the injectors.

Mark.

Well I pulled them all out this morning, one by one I checked inside on the injector bore and there was nothing inside so the copper washers must have come out when I removed the injectors. So they were properly installed when I put everything back together the first time. I installed some viton O-rings I have with Me since I could not get them from My local Bosch shop anyways.

One other thing, since I could not use My truck for a couple months while I waited for the injectors to come back I forgot that I usually pull the 12v power wire from the IP solenoid so I did not realize I did not have any air left in the system but it just didn't have 12v to that solenoid. I runs well now, not a huge difference from before yet but I have not driven it so I could be wrong, looks like all the 2stroke oil and PS additive kept them in good shape until 240k miles.

Thanks.
