81 to 93 crew cab swap

Hey guys, im kinda new to these forums but im starting a new project and have a few questions, im taking my 93 ctd and extending the frame under the cab and putting on a crew cab, can any body tell me if the front to body mounts on both cabs are in the same place? I know that I will have to move the back ones back to accomidate for the extra lenngth, and also my crew cab is a 2wd and my 93 is 4wd they are both manuals but will the tunnel clear on the crew?

Hey Welcome to the board!!

Sounds like a nice project. There is a TON of info on these crewcab swaps in the archives. Use the "Search" function, grab a comfy chair, your favorite bevy and start reading.

Also on the main forum page if you scroll down there is a "Cummins Conversion" section. Lots of info in there as well. Maybe start your own thread there about your progress with info, pics and questions.

As for your questions...don't know for sure about the front body mounts, but I would tend to lean towards them being the same. As for the tranny tunnel, I believe all manual shifted crewcabs came with the big tranny tunnel. So you should be OK there.

Is your truck a standard cab or a club cab? Aside from repairing the cab mounts you should not have to touch them when you cut and extend the frame. It's the on center distance between the front and rear cab mounts that is different. IIRC it's 77 inches on center for the crew cab mounts. I can recheck that later if required...

Awesome that's what I was thinking that they were the same! Its a standard cab, my extension is going to be between the front and back mount so I think if I get it just right and make the two mounts 77 inches apart I will not even have to un rivit them and move them, thanks for the help guys, I think my extension will be around 34 inches

The length of frame stretch is equal to the measured front to rear length of the rear door + the gap to the rear of the front door. That's the amount of cab that you are adding. If you don't add the gap amount you will have the bed setting a tad bit closer because the cab will be setting to the rear of the center of the rear cab mounting bracket on the frame. I'll see if I can get a center to center measurement for the cab frame brackets here in a few minutes.

EDIT: Confirmed at 77 inches center to center of mounting hole. 34 inches added should work. Allow for welding shrink.

For what its worth I'm no expert by no means but I have the same project started with a 92 W350 4x4 5speed. My crew cab is 2wheel drive and does not have the 4x4 shifter hole so i have a tunnel from a donor 4x4 to cut the 2x4 tunnel out and replace it with the 4x4 tunnel. Like I said don't know if this helps just thought I would add it for what it was worth.

rrfarm I wouldn't worry about swapping the tunnel out just cut the hole for the shifter it's easier .the tunnel is wide enough on the crew's

Thanks nobody has told me that. Will you have any clearance problems with the shifter or linkage?

simplysmn you said the dash was easy. What do you know about the electrical bulkhead location on the firewall and the clutch slave cylinder between the 92 and the crew cab I have is a 74? Had a local that has already done the swap tell me a portion of the firewall had to be cut out and replaced with the newer 92 firewall. Thanks.

I have measured and compared the tunnels between my 93 and my81 and the tunnels look and measure pretty much the same, Im pretty sure you can just cut a new hole in the crew cab for the 4wd shifter and you will be good to go I think you might have to cut about a 10 inch section out of the 93 cab though and put it in your crew though, I don't think the wiring harness block and the clutch linkage is coming through in the same spot on the fire wall, I have seen a couple previous posts on a different we site that showed pictures of him doing it, it looked really simple, im not too that point yet with my swap, but I will post pictures when I figure it out
