727 to getrag swap 2x4

Anyone EVER do this swap?? I have all the parts HOWEVER I have run into an unexpected hurdle. the 4x4 auto and manual and the 2x4 manual seem to have a bigger tunnel for the trans... a big squared off hump in the middle of the floor and mine is not as large. has anyone tried to stuff a getrag in the space of a 2x4 auto tunnel?? if so, how did the fit and finish look at the base of the shifter, / floor? I have the shifter boot assy and all.

I have a 1990 4x4 auto trans truck and I'll bet the 4x4 engine and drive train set a little farther away from the underbody than the 2WD. Check my guess with a wrecking yard.

That big tunnel is there for the transfer case, not the Getrag. The Getrag should fit in there just fine by itself. My truck has the big tunnel (I guess it's a Club Cab thing?) and the Getrag is swimming in there. I can actually use a funnel to fill the trans there's so much room next to it.

thanks for the input wannadiesel
I will attempt to get a clean install with the small tunnel, will keep you posted.
the parts weren't that cheap. If you found a donor truck for 2000 or less, go for that's all I have to say. Make sure your getrag is good or just get an good - properly overhauled unit and be done with it
