I finally got all my parts together to relieve my truck of the slush box/noise maker transmission that has been ailing it for the last 16 years. I started the disassembly friday night and the truck was back on the road this afternoon about 3:00 pm. What a difference the gearbox makes. Now I can actually make the Cummins work instead of the sludge convertor spinning and making heat. The truck runs about 5 to 10 mph faster in 4th gear than it did with the auto and definately runs cooler up the same grades. I was worried about the 3.07's being a little too high but I can live with them. The swap was fairly easy since I had the donor truck on site, lots of stupid little things would have made this job a PITA!!! I hope to hook it to the trailer this weekend and haul whats left of my donor truck to the guy that bought it. The only drawback that I can see with the Getrag and 3.07's would be running bigger tires, but then again that's what they make underdrives for................
