70’s truck aftermarket AC/heat

Have any of you run an aftermarket IN dash AC/heat setup for a 70’s truck? What brand and model? How was the install? How is the performance? Would you do it again?

I just ordered a “Hurricane” unit from Old Air Products to retrofit into my 73 Cummins powered Crew Cab. I haven’t seen anything installed into a 70’s truck, so I may do a full pictorial write up, to hopefully help some guys out that are looking to heat and cool the inside of their trucks. Any interest in this?

I would read that and maybe use some of the ideas on future builds plans.
That would be great.
Thanks

We’ll se how it goes. Hopefully the kit comes in before Christmas, so I’ll have something to do when the inlaws bring their kids over This will be a learning experience for me, as I’ve never done anything with AC or heat before.

Do it to it! I'll be watching for this thread. My 74 FireWagon desperately needs a new underdash HVAC, and about a million dollars worth of Dynamat.

I can’t hear much in mine with the windows down... thinking of having the inside of my truck sprayed with Line-X or Rhino Liner

Dude there is 0, that's zero, insulation or sound deadening in that 1974 cab. I have moderate hearing damage as it is, I'd like to protect what little I have left

I’ve got carpet and that’s it... I can’t hear the kids or my minion (shop employee) from the back seat...sometimes that’s a good thing though.

Ac isn't really all that complicated. Hell It will be a walk in the park compared to some of the other stuff you have done to that truck.

We’ll see. The Hurricane is coming to California on Monday.... As long as the wife doesn’t have any plans made, I should be tackling the install next weekend. Stay tuned.

My issue is that I'm out of room behind the 74 grill for the condensor

How much gap is there? I ran an autozone fan clutch, which gave me almost a another inch of clearance. My radiator is pretty darn close to the fan. There’s about 1 3/8” gap on mine, and I’m not afraid to clearance the backside of the grill if need be.
