5 Speed And Tcase Question

I Want To Put A 91 Five Speed Tranny In My Automatic 97 And I Was Wondering If You Guys Knew If There Was A Different Tcase That Had A Low And High Range That Will Bolt To That 5 Speed, The Truck I Getting For A Donor Only Has A 4wd Or 2wd, No High Or Low. Thanks Alot!

Well is the 91 trans 4wd or 2wd? they can be changed, but the mainshaft and tailhousing are different between the two Getrags

The Tcase that's in the 91 won't work anyhow because it's passenger side drop. You have to run a 241 out of a manual truck from 94-03. You have no other option that I am aware of.

old ford 205 t-case will bolt to the rag but i think you would have to change the input shaft of the t-case to match the rag

Is the 97 a NV4500? If so then it should work fine.

My guess is that you would need a 1st gen bellhousing, clutch master and slave cylinders perhaps a 1st gen starter to get the trans mated to the 97 12valve. In my opinion you would be better off to get an NV4500 for your swap then you can use all 2nd gen parts for the swap including the transfercase. What transfer case do you have that has no hi/low range in it? I'm not sure what would fit as was started before the NP205 that was coupled to the Getrag has the front shaft on the pass side. Good luck.

Ok Here Is What I Have And What I Looking To Get Out Of The Two Truck I Have, My Truck That I Want A Manual In Has A Auto In It, And It Is A 97. The Truck That Has The Manual In It, Is A 91 With A Tcase That Only Has In Our Out, No Low Range. I Want To Know If That Manual Will Work On My Truck? And What Factory Tcase Will Fit It, That Will Also Fit My Front End (different Dropside Than The 91)

And What Is A Nv4500 Out Of? And What Is Better About Them? If I Go And Change My Tcase I Will Not Have The 4wd Lights That Work And My Auto Hubs? So I Want To Stick To The Same Year Or So Tcase That Comes In My 97, But I Just Want To Know If This Manual Tranny Will Work Or Not. Thanks

you need the adapter plate off the engine too and the only thing i can think that might be different would be the input shaft on your 97 t case but i dont know

NV4500 is the 5 speed used in second gen dodge CTD as well as some other makes. People will argue if its better worse or equal to the getrag. I believe that they are pretty equal, both have their problems. Like I said before I would consider selling the 91 doner and getting a 94-early 98 doner truck then you will have everything you need for the swap and all your electrics etc. will work. Just my .02

I know some people like their getrags, but I would have to advise against actually swapping one in... They tend to break on me.

If you are going through all that hassle, get an NV4500.

But thats just like my opinion.... Man.
