1. My dad bought it new.
2. I get compliments on it every time I drive it.
3. It burns B100 biodiesel (and I despise the governments of all the OPEC nations).
4. It'll haul anything I need to carry and tow anything I need to pull.
5. Maintenance is a fraction of the cost of new truck.

1. Great fuel economy for a 3 ton beast
2. A 4dr that my 6'8" and 275lbs can fit with comfort
3. Wife doesn't want to drive it because it's too much like a big rig
4. It's not a cookie cutter diesel truck you see on every street corner
5. I can work on it myself
And one other....I get to come to the DTR and chat with you'ins....

penguinman, sounds like a great trip and looks like you had fun. Thanks for sharing
my 5 reasons would have to be...
1. It is one of a kind, no one else has a truck like mine
2. It was my grandpas old truck, and i can always remember the memories i had in it.
3. I've done all the work myself and i have learned so much by doing it and thanks to you guys.
4. It just sounds soooo cool! The power is unbelievable
5. It is my baby, and i'm always worried about it. I can't go for more than a day without even lookin at it. It always makes me happy no matter what.

It's paid for, cheap, easy to work on, gets good fuel mileage, and my grandpas always said no one needs that much power in a pickup.
Plus it just took me 1400 miles without a major problem, and I'm betting it will take me another 2000 to get home this winter.
If I had the money when my one grandpa died his old 77 Frod would have a Cummins in it today.

Chicks in trucks are HOT!!!
After reading all these posts, the most common reason is it's paid for. The next being, I think, (I haven't actually counted) is good MPG's. As a few have pointed out, the hybrid and greeny types should pull their heads out of where the sun don't shine and realise these trucks are actually much better for the environment than any car... sorry,

Anyway, my list is about like everyone elses.
i) It's paid for.
ii) There's not too many like it around here.
iii) I can work on it without being a nuclear physicist.
iv) Even with my minmal mods I can whip some ...
v) Despite it's age, it still looks and runs like a solid truck. It can do most anything a new truck can.
