46RH tear down issues
46RH tear down issues
Hello, this is my first post. I've lurked a long time, joined later, now finally posting.
I can usually search and find a answer, but not this time.
This is my 2nd rebuild, so I'm still very much a tranny rookie.
Got the overdrive section apart and on the bench.
Started on the main case and got the valve body off along with the oil pump.
Direct drum pulled out easily, but forward drum wouldn't separate from sun gear shell.
I've wiggled up and down, side to side. Nothing.
When I pull on the input shaft , everything comes out together including intermediate shaft.
Is there some special trick to this? The only thing I can think of is to cut into the sun shell to some how get at the snap ring.
I'll post a pic tomorrow.
Thanks for any help!

I re/re'd my first auto (727) a couple years a go and watched every vid I could find on-line, as well as any and all sites, posts and threads I could find. So I would go to the interwebs and do some reading and watch some vids and see if there is a trick, search up 727, 904, A727, A904, A518, 46RH and probably the A999 and A500...all based on the same 727 and 904 platform.

This is what has to come apart.
Well I got it apart. Didn't really find a solution on the inter webs.
At this point I really had nothing to lose. So I grabbed it by the input shaft in one hand, the intermediate shaft in the other hand, like curling a barbell.
Held it about 2 feet above a sheet of plywood and dropped it directly on the sun shell. Did this about 20 times hitting it on different spots on the shell.
It finally popped lose. The disks where all welded together so to speak.
