4" or 5" exhaust

I'm at a cross roads...

Have gathered almost every part except a new down pipe. Installing a HE351 i believe from a 2006. The 4" downpipe is $180 from one of the sites and i plan on sticking a BIG muffler behind the turbo to eliminate all the drone and low notes. I would like to leave the turbo wine/whistle if possible.

Is there a 5" downpipe? i haven't been able to find something like that, and if i were to make one would it be worth it?

The real question: would a 4" be better than a 5"? Considering in under 300hp for now and don't plan on making more than 400hp in this truck, any time too soon. What would the benefit for me be, having a 5" over a 4" exhaust?

I don't think you gonna find a 5" unless you build your own. I don't think you would really see any benefit from a 5" over a 4".

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! lol straight pipe all the way

or at least a glasspack! you could always dynomat the floor to reduce noise but thats pricey, i love the straight pipe so much i keep my windows down even now when its 10 degrees out just to hear it.

this is just what i was told, correct me if im wrong, but 4" is the loudest and 5" gives it that mean sound?

You can get 5" 3rd gen dp's. Not sure if it will fit well but I'm sure it can be modified.

As for the "mean" sound, the larger the pipe, the slower the exhaust moves and the more room the noise has to bounce around and it gives it a deeper tone the bigger it gets.

Yeah i think i should just go with the 4" all the way back. I figured since it was a 3rd gen turbo i should go with the 5" but i guess it doesn't really matter too much with the goals i have set. I'm building the exhaust from the down pipe back so there wouldn't be too big of a price difference in 4" vs. 5" pipe.

As for the sound, don't get me wrong i love it!! Loud and aggressive like a pittbull... just the neighbors don't like it at 5AM. So i will be going with a nice big muffler, maybe figure some sort of a cut/out for the track...check out dr.gas for some oval pipe :-D.
i'd like to do stacks but with a truck with as little rust as mine i'd hate to just start hacking at the beautiful metal thats lasted so long without anybody messin with it.

Although the mean sound, i think your right soot, what you said sure does make sense.
