3200 Spring vs. Throttle Stop Bolt

Got to thinking after looking at my pump - if the 3200 spring allow for more RPM's, then what is the difference in it and just backing off the trottle stop bolt to allow for more throttle? Thinking out loud....

It will help a bit, but the gov. spring inside just isn't strong enough when it comes right down to it. That and you won't have to move the throttle pysically as far either with a 3200 gov. spring.

Moving the throttle stop doesn't change when the internal govenor starts to defuel - it's never quite that easy!

Yup. Within reason, the spring constant of the factory spring will not change, even if you stretch it further. You'll gain a few rpm, but the governor weights will still overcome the spring at roughly the same rpm. The 3200 sping is much stiffer, and thus provides higher rpm before the gov. weights take over. I'm not sure how high mine will rev...I chicken out at 3600...

I'm curious again...how fast exactly in mph is someone going at 3600 rpm? Uphill, yeah, I can see the rpm's that high. Are you talkin' on the flat? I, too, just had the 3200 G spring installed(thanks again, Rebal) and yes it did make a difference in responsiveness. For me, on the flat, at WOT I still am around at 2300 rpm and I'll get that up to 85 mph. Am I just not punchin' the pedal far enough as you wild men? Why do they call it a 3200 spring, anyway? Speed and RPM are also affected by what rear end gears and tire size you have.
I think that the 3200 numbers is what a factory pump will turn with the 366 spring. With the screw backed out I get over 3500 and I have heard of 4000 RPM with a 3200 spring and pump adjustments.
If you are only getting 2300 RPM then you have an incorrect tach or your throttle linkage is not allowing full throttle.
Have someone step on the throttle while you watch the linkage. When the pedal is on the floor reach down and see if you can give it more throttle by hand, if so you need to work on your throttle linkage to allow more throttle.
good luck

But is that 3500 rpm on level road or uphill? It makes a difference.

That will depend on the load ,OH HI augie .at the same load the 3200 will pull harder because its keeping the fuel on longer.its not nessisaraly giving you that much HP it just widened the power band and makes it a lot more driver friendly.
before I installed the 3200 spg my top speed was 80-83 and that was standing hard on the Diesel pedal.now I can almost hit 100 doing the same and to cruse at 70-80 makes my foot love it
