3 months ago, 1 beat up D350 LE that had no power

I did:
1 thermostat, 2 gauges, and a piston lift pump.

To the mechanic for:
Pull IP
Fix KDP
Install Bosch 4 hole injectors
Belt
water pump
All 4 ball joints
2 more steering components
Install IP

Had the IP rebuild and 366 spring install done.

It just came back from the mechanic Friday. I did the DennyT Stage 1 pin today and took it out for it's first real run. I had only driven the truck when it had the bad IP. It is a completely different animal now.

This thing moves too quickly for something so heavy. The 5 speed just makes it fun. I'd never driven anything bigger than a 1/2 ton old chevy before. If I step on it I get a nice puff of black smoke that goes away when the boost comes on.

Speaking of boost. When I step on it in 4th or 5th, it goes from 3PSI straight to 20 in about 1.5 second, then hovers at 20. Is that normal? I can't find a hill steep enough to really give the engine a workout. I don't know if it will go higher yet.

I haven't been able to get the pyro over 1100. I've got go go pick up a 23' travel trailer tomorrow. We'll see what hauling that over a pass or two will do.

I still have a few questions.

I took the bosch 4 injectors in to get checked when they rebuilt the pump. I also had them install the 3200 rpm governors spring. I got a call from the guy doing the rebuild asking what RPM I wanted to run. Why would he ask that? Doesn't the spring set the max RPM? Does the high idle screw set the max rpm?

Since the bosch injectors were in there too, would they have adjusted the pump to work best with those injectors?

Sometimes when I step on it hard, as the RPMs pass 2200 it sounds like it's making a hammering noise. The engine sounds great at all other times. Is that sound just the engine pushing hard? Maybe something is loose and vibrating at that RPM?

I've still got work to do on it. But the thing is, I've had this truck for 3+ months now. I just got to enjoy it for the first time today.

The governor spring controls the point at which your IP starts to defuel not the high RPM your engine can run. There is a threaded stop screw that limits how far the throttle can go. You can set that higher than 3200 rpms but the pump will still start to defuel at anywhere from 3000 to 3400 rpms.

Boost coming on fast from 3 to 20 psi with Denny T stage 1 pin sounds quite normal to me.
