2002 HX35W on IC 1st gen?

My brother is upgrading in 02 and I was wondering if the turbo off of it would work on my 93? I know the exhaust will have to be moved back an inch, but overall is it the same as the 90s HX35s?
Sorry for the remedial questions. I tried the search function, but must have used the wrong search words.

Thanks
Virgil

You will need to do some custom work on the downpipe, the v-band flange does not work with the late model HX's and HY's. Best thing to do would be to get his old downpipe if possible and graft it to your downpipe.

Are you sure it's an HX and not an HY? Mpst '02's had the HY, unless this is an HO truck that's likely what it has. The HY will work OK with a mostly stock truck, but the 9 cm turbine housing is too restrictive for bigger injectors. It will also hurt highway fuel economy if you run much over 60.

Wannadiesel,
Thanks. He said it was an HX35w, his truck is an HO with 6 speed. I was actually hoping to change the back to the earlier 90s back plate to mate to my exhaust.

If you could do that, you'd be in business

That'll do it, but they can be difficult to locate.

Manual tranny trucks through 02 (5 and 6 speed) had the hx-35. The autos were equipped with the hy-35.

I've got the hx35-12wg on my truck...best mod so far. Empty and running it's guts out, I'm still getting an average of 19.5 mpg city/highway. Cannot ask for more. Now if I could just get it to manufacture it's own fuel...
