1st Gen Electrical Emergency.

Today At School My Power Locks Wouldnt Work. I Went To Lunch And Went To Park At The Store, Applied The Parking Brake And Sparks Shot At My Feet And Smoke Filled The Cab From The Left Side Of The Cabin. The Abs Light And The Parking Brake Light Are On While Driving Down The Road. The Windows And Locks Are Intermintly Working And There Is No Sign Of Wirring Issues. All The Fuses Are Also Good. What Happened??? Im Pulkling The Dash Out Right Now. Please Help Me.

The parking brake mechanism has been known to chew through the wire bundle. That's what's happened here. Don't think there's need to pull the dash. You can view the wire bundle by getting on your back on the floor and looking up at the top of the parking brake assembly. It's also possible you fried on of the fusible links on the fender in the engine bay. But it doesn't sound like it since most of your stuff is working, at least part time. Pull one your battery cables off first so you don't make more sparks. Then repair whatever chewed up wires you find. If you still have problems, then you'll need to chase down the issue one-by-one.

Mine was smoking and sparking one time and it turned out to be a toasted wire in the steering column. I replaced it (I think that it was a wire that grounded the top of the column to the frame ??) and it has been OK since. Never did figure out why that wire was toasted but it was toasted up pretty good.

Good Day,
JP.

welcome to the world of Dodge D/W truck wiring. if ya ever get the time, pop the bulkhead connector appart (the big square one on the firewall by the brake booster), you`ll probably find an assortment of either overheated and/or green cruddy connections in there. the last 2 of these trucks I have had (incl the current one) have had some signs of trouble brewing in there.

fusible links or on the driver's side fender. They're a pain. Most people, if they have to start messing with them, replace them with some sort of buss bar and breakers. I know AP Watson did this.

There is a write up in the sticky about wiring in a fuse box. I would highly recommend doing this mod. I procrastinated on it until my 5th wiring issue. Haven't had a prob. since.
