I have a 93, basic work truck. Manual door locks and windows. I found a donor 93 LE with power DL and windows. I want to swap into the power equipped doors.

My question...is the wiring for the power accessories already in my base model for me to tap-plug into? Or am I fabricating new harnesses?

To run the power window s and door locks, all you need is power and ground. Power windows are a bit more involved. I think there is a plug behind the kick panels that the door wiring plugs into.

 

The thing to do would be to check the fuse block. If there are supply wires in the fuse block, then all you have to do is test for power and provide fuses and wiring to the doors.

 

The wiring harness for the power windows, power mirrors and door locks, is up under the dash, behind the defroster vent ducting. It is secured to the inside of the firewall.

Here is what it looks like...







Chances are if your truck was built with manual windows, and locks, then this harness is not present.

 

Ok...you're confusing me.

I stated that my truck is a base model. NO P windows NO P locks.

So this wiring IS NOT THERE....?
No need to tear down just to inspect.

Anyone have any solid answers?

 

Open the glove box there is enough gap on the upper right corner to shine a flashlight to see if the wires are there.. on the driver side it is easy to see.

As per YOUR original question....

Seemed pretty clear in your original question that you were unsure if your truck would already have this wiring or not?

I was just SHOWING you what to look for. NOT TELLING YOU to tear down your truck. I thought my post was very helpful and informative. Guess not.

I'll make sure to avoid your posts in the future if your going to act like that.

 

Use 2 toggle (or rocker) switches and put them in the dash for the power windows. Double pole double throw momentary-on/off/momentary-on. Looking at the back of the switch, the two center posts will go to the window motors. Top left and bottom right, get power. Top right and bottom left get ground.

That's how I got around the lack of power in the driver's door on the Century class Freightshaker at work.

If you want the switches in the door, you'll need 3 instead of 2 switches. Then you'll just run a power and ground to both doors, and two wires from one door to the other, so you can run the 2 switches in parallel.

Never did figure out why the factory needs so many wires to do the job 6 can do.

Oh, and if you're switch runs upside-down, you can turn the switch (wiring connected) upside down, or switch the wires at the 2 center poles, or the window motor.
