12v intercooelr, turbo swap
12v intercooelr, turbo swap
Exactly as the title states, what all is involved? I have a 94 12v that im parting out and im really interested to put an ic in my '90 as it is my "new" work truck so i can keep from driving the ford everyday. Also is the turbo on the 12v any better than what i have now? I wouldnt mind a little more spoolup on the bottom end so if the 94 turbo would help im all e3ars! Finally gonna tweak the pump tonight if i have time. Also im not looking at a huge hp rig just want to make the ol gal a lil snappier

There's some trimming of the core support to fit an I/C in a non-I/C truck. The grille will most likely have to go in favor of a new style grille to fit the depth of the I/C. If the turbo on the '94 is in good shape, it's a definite improvement over the H1C on your '90. Go for it---exhaust housing and all. Keep the H1C for a core when you upgrade later on...oh yes, you will upgrade

Will the turbo bolt right up to manifold? What about exhaust flange on exhaust any different? Sorry been too busy to actually look at that end of truck. Spent last 1 1/2 day swapping flat bed from '94 to the '90. Sounds like the ic will be a bigger project than i can handle right now so i'll prob save that one for later.
Thanks for all the help, luke
The turbo is a bolt-on, you will just have to move the exhaust pipe back a little to make it fit. Since you aren't doing the intercooler immediately, you will also have to come up with some way of connecting the turbo to the crossover tube. There are silicone elbows available that will do the trick. And you'll need to reclock the compressor, but all you need for that is a pair of pliers.

I was told that the first year of the 2nd gens which was 94, had a wastegated H1C. same turbo just a smaller exhaust housing. It would still be an improvement.
I agree, put that 94 P-pump engine in that 90

The 94's had a WH1C. They're identical in function to an HX35. In appearance, they differ in that the WH1C has a band clamp holding the compressor housing on, like an H1C on a 1st gen, wheras an HX35 has a snap ring holding the compressor housing on. Both the WH1C and the HX35 came with a 12cm wastegated exhaust housing on Dodge trucks. The nice thing about the WH1C is that the HTT stage IV compressor wheel/housing (62mm, i think) will bolt up with only a backing plate modification. Stage IV is not available for an HX35.
