Wondering about power band?
Hi,
My 97 seems to loose some power after hitting say 2200 RPM'ish. Is this normal with a stock setup? I just replaced the fuel filter and do notice easier start and idle and quicker throttle responce with hopefully better fuel mileage too. I am becoming a believer of the Cummins Power to spare scene though.
I just started to turn the startwheel the other day 2 clicks still not sure if that did anything, maybe more clicks. I would like to feel the acceleration into the high 2K's though.
Suggestions or feedback is appreciated.

they start to defuel around that rpm. thats what the factory settings on the pump are. and you wont notice anything with just 2 clicks of the star wheel. move your fuel palt forward and you will notice a diference especially if you grind on it. ill be making a number 10 plate for mine as soon as i get my trans temp gauge

My question then is a Governor Kit the best way to increase fueling or are bigger injectors better with the fuel plate mod maybe?
Thanks for the input.

If you want to increase your power band, get the 3000 rpm governor spring kit and advance your pump timing to 16 degrees.
If you want to increase your fueling, get an aftermarket plate.
You can do quite a bit without going to aftermarket injectors. Guaranteed, by the time you need injectors to get more power you will have already toasted your stock clutch.

It seems like most folks agree the GSK is the most noticeable and best engine mod you can do.
Good idea to buy a 4000 rpm kit and leave out the extra springs making it a 3000.
That way if you ever decide you need more and want to install 60 lb valve springs you won't have to buy another kit.

Thanks "Bill"
I will take a look at the GSK install.
The timing is "Not" a straight forward thing to adjust I do have a decent dial indicator but seems more complicated to do than the KDP anyways. 2.5hrs @ $96.00/hr approx $250.00 + 12% tax=
Thanks again for the advice and link.

Chapter President
I had the plate and injectors before I did the GSK and regret it every day. I should have done the GSK first even with the 215 pump. I thought the governor was good enough but the kick you get from the GSK is very noticeable and would be on a stock engine. Depending where you are in BC, there are a few shops out there that could help you out.
