Who IS running a waste oil mix?
I know there are several members that run waste oil in their fuel. Those who are running it what have you found to be too much oil in the mixture and what ratio does the truck run the best on. i am experimenting and right now i have a 40% oil and 60% diesel mix and my cummins seems to be enjoying it.

I run 10 gallons of WMO in each tank. I made a gravity feed filter system in my garage that has three filters. The final filter is at 0.35 microns. I also taped rare-earth magnets around the outside of the filter housings that I harvested out of hard drives I dug out of the trash at work to grab any ferrous metal out of the oil. I figure if particulate can pass through a 0.35 micron filter it should be ok in the truck. When I run WMO the engine seems to run a little smoother.

Ive run up to 90% WMO during the summer and 50% during the winter. I added a 2 micron fuel filter on the frame. Running around town, only loose .2 mpg. Towing light, like a boat, loose .5mpg. Towing our RV, loose 1-2 mpg with it.

i have no smoke with my 60/40 mix. i am in the process of building a filtering apparatus with a 3 micron filter a water seperator and a small block chevy oil pump. ill have to run it with a cordless drill. im ok with the mileage loss as i will be paying ALOT less for a tank of fuel. right now im also battling a fuel supply problem if the truck is parked uphill it looses prime. level and downhill ive not seen problems. so its sucking air from somewhere.

transformer oil from the overhead power company transformers
Summer I run 50-50 veg oil mix. I use a Diesel Craft centrifuge to clean it.
No smoke from veg oil mix.
I won't use veg oil below 50*

I've run 600 gallons of wmo and waste hyd thru my 12v. I just blew a head gasket at 350k and you could still read the numbers stamped on the pistons, there were still crosshatch marks in the cyl.s and the injectors were NOT coked up. I haven't run any for the last 5k because of the MT winter, but I was pleased how things looked.

Oil
I run 1/3 tank oil, no issue. I mix it with straight diesel so its easier to filter. Heck I accidentaly filled with 3/4 gas and it ran okay, lots of stumble at part throttle lol....My problem is finding enough waste oil.

As recently as a couple of years ago Cummins said right on their website that 5% lube oil mix was fine. That's obviously a very low concentration compared to what some of you appear to be running. I've never run more than 1 gallon per tank in either my 1992 or 2000 trucks.
For filtering, I took the poor man's route and allowed the oil to settle for several months. Settling is just as good as filtering, as long as you don't mind waiting. After 3 or 4 months the top 1/3rd of a gallon jug full of used Delo 400 looked like new oil, but maybe just a tiny bit darker. I would pour 3/4 of a jug like that into a 6 gallon plastic Blitz fuel jug, and then filled that with clean diesel. I'd let that settle for another couple weeks and then pour it in.
My goal is solely to increase fuel lubricity. I couldn't care less about disposing of used oil--the local dump accepts used oil up to 5 gallons for free, so no issue there in my case. I'm sure it's different for others though.

I run wmo in my 12 valves; hasn't hurt anything yet.
I bought some filtering socks off ebay & gravity filter it down to 1 micron. I pour it into used oil bottles & keep 'em in a milk crate in my bed, then pour some into the tank when I'm at the gas station. It doesn't provide near the lubricity that bio or even 2 stroke oil does, but it's practically free & helps get rid of used oil, so BAZINGA!!
