what should i set my timing at
i just received my 370's and my timing kit will be here tommorrow. i was wondering what i should set my timing at. its a daily driver for now so i don't want to put it where it'll hurt the engine but i also want to go the most i can . i was thinking somewhere around 16.5-17.5 degrees
I had a set of marine 370's in my truck before all the bombing began and i had them at 24*. i know this is alot and made it alittle hard to start. 24 is the max you can go with the marines before you start to miss the bowl but 23 was just as good and you would be safe there. but if it is just a driver with lots of power and smoke than around 17-18 should help keep egts somewhat managable. i know they really lit my truck up and the tires!
If you do any heavy towing you may find 18* to be a little on the high side but since you are not running a lot of extra fuel you may be fine.........I see you have a 215 pump so I would be concerned about potentially high cylinder pressures if you do tow heavy........if you run around empty you will be fine with 18*..........IMO, hard working CTD's that pull long grades with heavy loads and run much more fuel over stock should probably stick to 16* to prevent lifting the head or blowing out the head gasket.........it just depends on the intended use of the truck.
Keep it at 15.5 to 17 if your going to tow at all. I had mine set at 16 with a 215 pump and 370's . If your running a stock clutch it will not last long with 370s and any kind of Fuel plate mods. I could spin it (clutch) at will with anything over 30 psi. Keep your stock fuel plate in untill you get a clutch!

You will scream past 15 psi in the blink of an eye after the 370's are installed and you should consider setting your wastegate to open at 35-37 psi after those 370's are in!
i was able to hit 40psi with it fully closed so i opened it so i wouldn't trash the turbo. right now at full throttle i can only hit 1200deg i dont know where it will be after the injectors hopefully timing will bring it down some. a turbo is in the near future
i could hit 55 psi with 370s 35/nw16 and a 100 plate, and a afc spring kit
But it did get hot. Stock timing was 13 I had it set at 16 and it droped off about 150 deg. also the 5" should help keep things a little cooler.
