What is life expectancy of 12 valve?

So what can I expect to get out of it? I want to swap one into a chevy, and was hopinbg I can get over 300k out of it... What is there to look out for? Also, where can I get the motor, tranny and t-case for a descent price?

You can easily get 300k miles on even a modified cummins. Fix the killer dowel pin before you put it in, and it will be fine for a long time. These things are hard to kill. As for finding it all... A wrecked truck may be your best bet.

I'll agree to that. Over 458k miles, still running original injectors, injector pump, and turbo. Dynoed 297hp/611tq to the rear wheels with just a fuel plate, advanced timing, better air filter and lost cat & muffler. Many, many miles of towing.

I've driven one with 650,000+ on it. Hauled big loads every day of it's life. I don't know what the final count was on it when he traded it off.......

A friend used one to deliver 5th wheel travel trailers for a living. Everyday heavy towing, max GVWR type stuff and he finally got tired of being on the road and sold it. When the new owner drove off it had 585,000 on the clock and was still running fine.

I read a post on here a while ago about a man in canada I think that had a 94 with over a million miles on it. He claimed that he hardly ever changed the oil,air filter or anything just drove it. I think the only thing that he replaced was the transmission.

I million miles if you maintain the engine fuel filters, on time oil changes..run diesel injector cleaners and dryer plus it is not a ouctain booster because diesel does not run that way...but a additive to make the engine smother every tank and good fuel....a million is not out of line at all
had over 1 million and a half before I had a inframe rebuild in my Other Cummins in my Volvo
have been useing a diesel since 1973 and the best diesel I liked was the Cummins ...so look for a long service out of your P.U.

I dont doubt the motor in my 95 lasting one bit i just doubt everything else such as the body. Im at 173k right now. With all that cross country driving you know the trucks been in its share of salt on the roads, I wonder how the rest of the trucks holding up..
