Visual differences; You should notice that the H1Cs use a v-band clamp to hold the cold side on, HX35s use a snap ring.

The real difference; HXs have MWE (Map Width Enhancement) slots if you look in around the compressor fins. H1Cs are more antiquated and don't have these.. the slots also allow the HX series to give a more pronounced ear-catching inlet noise that we all like!

WH1C: Waste-gated H1C. These models should be found only on 1994 trucks. '95-up came with HX35/12. '94s were 12 cm hot side as well.

Check that the '35 from the 2001 came from a manual trans truck.. An '01 or '02 auto truck should have had an HY35/9.

The only other important difference deals with the aftermarket; The H1Cs are available with a stage IV compressor upgrade kit (62mm). HX35s only go to stage III (60mm.)

Please fire back with any other questions.. hope this helps!

I also have a hx-35 off of a 2001 sitting on my dresser! Would it be beneficial to swap it in on my 94?

I do not remember all , but it seems like it is easier & cheaper to up grade the HCs , then the HX .
Can not find the link I had to the outfit that sold the parts .

Not to hi-jack the thread; but does anybody know if a 14cm housing will work on the HX and the WH1C or are they not interchangeable between the two?

HC1W and HX35W 14 cm and 12 cm hot housings are interchangable. The slot cut in the HX35W inlet air side is an air bypass that extends the operating range of the turbo. The Hx35W used for Dodges also have a silencer ring. Some of the waste gate cover plates have a thicker flange where the exhaust pipe mounts, the exhaust pipe clamp might require a replacement with a wider clamp. It is my understanding the thicker flanges were found in some non automotive aplications.
I have upgraded two HC1W turbos with housing from HX35W turbos. One of the Hx35 housings requied my using the HC1W hosing wastegate cover because of thw wider flange. There are different locations of the waste gate lever, different lenth waste gate controllers and different bolt patterns for the waste gate brackets. The stainless steel cover gasket should be changed if the cover is removed. The waste gate controller should also set properly to proper travel at rated pressure,Setting pressure 1.58 KG setting lift 0.5-1.04m/m. is used on Service turbo Holset 3539371 /OEM 3802993. The turbo with the 29lb wastegate is Holst 3539373 This waste gate which I think might have been used on the 1997 HO 215 HP FED 49 States Engine. Some of the later waste gate actuators are not readily adjustable.

hey-Hey!!!,
Jus' wanted to add that the 24V HX35's have 7-blade compressor wheels and per the Maps flow nearly 60 lb/min v. low 50's for the 8-blade variants.
cheers,
Douglas
