As I know beside the DV and barrels the internal cam shaft is different between the two...But guys claim to get between 500 to 600 HP out of a 160 pump..

The cam, plungers and barrels are different from what I have read. I think its a bore and stroke change in the plungers from short and fat in the 160-180 pumps and then to tall and narrow in the 215. I seem to recall the high flow pumps take some parts from both to get the highest volume.

Doc.. Really?

So it doesn't seem to be much difference...With a couple of minor mods on a 160 you could get the same as a stock 215...But I guess you make the same on the 215 the difference will still be 55 HP...

Does anybody know what would happen if you put in lots of advance but drop the compression ratio 0.5-1 point? Might be an aweful beast to start, but it should run until you'll kill the fuel.

Cam shafts are better in the 180/215 pumps, allow more fill time than the 160/175 pumps. The little pumps dwell at TDC for half revolution then come down, bigger pumps start to descend shortly after TDC. Barrels are the same diameter (12mm), but the 215 pumps have the retard notches in the tops that reduce timing up to 4 degrees at full load. DV's are different. Gov assembly is lighter in the 215's, that why they spin up a bit higher in stock trim than the smaller pumps.

You can do 600+ on a 160 pump, Brad Ponci is on a pump that has never been off the truck. He is also running mid 11's with it. Just need the know how to do it.

Most likely, should be able to get to 600 with injectors, plate, timing and a GSK. Not sure what has been done to a 160 to get it to put out.
