Typical part numbers

I called CumminsNW for a 95 lift pump, fuel heater, and to check if they have starter parts. they claim they do not know what parts those are.

Is everyone in agreement that there is NO WAY to confirm a typical part for 95 TCD? In essence they are saying that out of an entire year of 12Valves they can't determine if any 2 motors have 1 typical part. This is ridiculous. Now i have to go home after work and then backtrack all the way to cummins again!

Give them the CPL number off the engine data plate.

they can identify any parts from that number.

lazy

still...isn't it a better idea to catagorize parts so as to serve a customer better rather than assuming hat everyone has the engine number on hand at all times? it's just poor service. I say that knowing full well cummins rep. for quality and accuracy. But now i've got a 2 to 3 hour errand.

Parts counters have lost their humanity. The last 3 times I went to get various parts for dirt bikes or cars or whatever they are glued to the computer, can't move, can't walk back and compare my part to what's on that shelf 3 feet away, it's amazing how plugged they are to a screen, yet unplugged from true customer service.

sorry, i'm done now. thanks for the help.

i work for a cummins dealer and there is a little more to it than you think how mad would you have been if he would have sold you something he thought was right and then you get home tear it apart and find out that it is wrong rather than get the right part the first time???

I'm suggesting to you to suggest to cummins a database so they could determine common and simple parts. The concept of manufacturing profitably is to make parts for a year or 2 straight, they don't change parts every other motor. These particular parts are very common to replace and now my Friday is shot and I'm SOL.

Redemption

Okay, it's the computers fault, not the parts guys. They redeemed themselves and actually told me about some gaskets I would have forgotten and they got the right stuff in a timely manner.

Thanks for the help, I got my parts yesterday and I'm still putting it together. should be done tonight.
