TST cummins power kit for 160hp engine

im lookin at the 230hp TST cummins kit for the 160hp TD, they say not to excede 230hp with a stock AOD, the one in the truck we have was just rebuilt, will it handle the 260hp kit they offer? also can someone explain governer kits and if id need one for that kit.

I know that in 5spd the gov kits help a lot. I never owned a auto with a gov kit so I can't tell you if it would help. I figure if it helps a standard then it will help a auto.
DM01
Does that kit come with guages?
If not you should get them first.
The first thing you need are gauges...What year truck is this a 94-95 ??...the # 6 plate is max for the 94-96 auto tyranny's unless you upgrade the VB and T/Q even a just rebuilt tranny is still stock....the # 6 should be ok for normal driving and towing lite loads as long as you don't stress the tranny (ie:long upgrade pulling 15000 lb trailer with the pedal on the floor)

These motors will make good Horse Power the weak link is the auto tranny or clutch stay within the plate makers recommended levels for your truck

The governor spring kit will wake up your motor by giving more RPM's before you start to defuel I would recommend the 3GSK kit the throttle will become more responsive ;D ;D

The 5 plate or 260 hp will slip a stock converter with ease as it has too much power. If you pull a heavy trailer you will also see very high EGTs.
The 6 plate (230) should be ok. I swapped my 5 plate off for a 8 plate(210) which, with my 10k plus trailer works fine.

Bill
