as the title says, my truck barely starts. I figured it would be batteries so I put brand new batteries in 850 cca each and the problem persists. anyone ever come accross a weak starter? the engine runs and idles fine so im hoping its not a spun bearing or anything. i also changed the oil and filtered all 10 quarts last night to thankfully find no metal shavings. any suggestions?

 

does it just crank over slow?

 

The starter on my dually was worn out, had the symptoms of weak batteries. After buying new batteries and a new ground cable, I finally took the starter off and checked it. Brushes were worn out and the commutator had lots of arc marks on it. Exchanged it and it fired up like it should.

 

Sounds like the starter is about gone or the cables are bad. I have replaced all the cables in mine last year and the starter this year.

 

it figures as soon as i post something.... the truck completely dies. it was the brushes and i got home by beating the starter with a hammer. got a new starter and my old batteries in and it starts like a champ! thanks for the replies guys!
