Transmission sensor

I bought a transmission temp gauge for my 96. I do not know what automatic tranny I have. On the passenger side I see there is four plugs that look like test ports can I put it in one of them and which one should I put it in. Pictures would help.

hi
no the test ports will only have oil circulation when changing gears you need full time monitering of oil comming out the front line from the convertor .

So, without a picture, I'm not sure mine's in the right spot. Mine is screwed into a port on the rear of the trans, on the passenger side.
I'll go get a picture. Tell me if it's wrong!

Here we go. This picture was taken from under the passenger side.
You can see the pan, so hopefolly you can see where I plugged it in. Is this an acceptable location?

BTW, I haven't gotten mine much over 160 degrees. Normally, it will only come off of 140 (mininum on my Isspro guage) if I'm in stop and go traffic.

Using the test ports on an RE will give you readings but they won't be right.
Best place is the output line to the cooler. There are tee kits you can buy or you can buy the output line for a '94/''95 which has a port.

Ok, so which one is the output line to the cooler? I'd like to make mine correct.

Thanks for opening my eyes.

It's the metal line heading forward on the driver's side of tranny.

Heres all you really need and its maybe $20:

The port for the sender is 3/8" npt (any other size you need 1/4" or 1/2" is also available).

So, cut my lline and splice this in? Looks like a ferrule compression type fitting. Is that correct? Or do I need to flare the ends?

Is there only one line on the driver's side? I can't remember. I was thinking there was two. Maybe one comes from the passenger side and crosses over?

Thanks!

I'm using this, it works well and it easy to install:

You put it in the front hose under the radiator going to the tranny cooler. You want the hot line, just drive the truck for a bit and feel the lines.
