I have a 96 Dodge cummins

The tranny lines have had it, been spliced a few times with rubber hose. I would like to replace them, so I called a local dodge dealer to find I need to spend like $300 on lines and fittings due to discontinued connectors etc.

Can I avoid dodge and make my own lines with maybe large copper tubing or large steel brake lines?

Is there anyone who has made them aftermarket for a fair price?

there are 3 lines

1 short one about 16" (looks like o-ring's on ends)

1 that connects to canister under the turbo

1 from side of tranny to cooler near radiator

it seems like they took the longest route to get from point A to B is there a reason like cooling the ATF?

 

$300.. Bah... Call up Bremerton Dodge: http://www.bremerton.fivestardealers.com/ They'll get you set up. I doubt it'll cost $300!

 

Actually it will cost you $488 for new lines and fittings to update to the newer style lines. I spent $150 for Areoquip hose and fittings (like most oval track racers use for fuel line) and replaced all my hoses and fittings. The transmission fittings are Straight Pipe Thread, not taper pipe that is very common. I got my fittings from MSC supply. Do not try to use taper pipe thread as it will crack your trans case. Mine is doing super after a few thousand miles.

 

You could also try NAPA or other place that make hydraulic tubes and hoses.Northern tool carries a lot of this type stuff also, you'll just have to figure out what you need and adapt it, a little time consuming but better than factory.

 

Yep I Just had the line go out that goes over to the aux tran cooler under turbo, napa built that hose for me for about 30$

 

Man where are you guys getting those prices?? I had my cooling lines for the tranny replaced last October- cost me almost $1000- Like $800 for the lines alone. According to Dodge certain lines are only available as sets and they are not stocked regionally only special order from Detroit, which took 6 weeks!
