Re:trans question

You need a up graded tranny...Keep pulling big loads and your tranny will self destruct...are you lugging the engine...or is the tranny just takin longer to shift...maybe your pressures need to be reset...talk to a tranny pro about it

Re:trans question

I have a 95 also and I have installed a governor kit and a tst #6 plate slid all the way forward along with the afc housing.
In my opinion I would not push the transmission, If you have a stock transmission I would manual shift each gear. I would go to 2500 in first and let off and shift an ease into second then pull to 2500 and go to third an use lock out and go to 2500 and let up and release lock out and go to fourth and ease into it. If the rpm drop below 1750 in forth then go to third as low rpms will not be good on transmission.
That is the real issue for me as I load the trailer heavy also and I dont wont to go faster than 62 or so and that is not fast enough for fourth gear with a load.
I bought a gear vendor unit a couple of years ago and the idea was to use the 3 gear and the .78 of the overdrive of the gearvendor but I never used it.
I made a bracket to hold the throttle cable from going all way back and this gives me more oil pressure at low rpms and extended shifts in auto. I use the manual method when the trailer is loaded to give the transmission a chance of living for a while. I have 91k on the truck and the transmission works good for now. If you wont to spend some money the a custom unit for 4.2k to ? then you might not need to do the manual shifts. The governor kit can help the engine make power to extend shifts. lol JimK

Re:trans question

I , myself do not use overdrive when towing until i am up to speed and even then if i know that it is gonna start pulling hard i keep my tc switch locked in or take it out of overdrive. CONCLUSION: DON'T TOW IN OVERDRIVE!!

Re:trans question

I just picked up my truck last Friady from having the transmission rebuilt at 93k miles. The Trans place showed me the old convertor and you could see where the clucth inside had gotten hot enough to discolor the metal. Look into getting a better torque convertor when the time comes. They cost more (mine was $750) but are well worth it. This will also give you good crisp shifts. I did not realize how bad my transmission was until I drove the rebuilt one.

Other pieces that were put in:
Transgo valve body with white springs
kevlar lined bands
new gears
new pump bushing
New gov solenoid
new shift kit

Very happy with it all and it tows the 5th wheel nicely. Had to test it to make sure.

Don M.
97 2500
