Was at the barn today and had to move my truck over a bit and when I walked back to where it was parked, there in the snow was some red fluid staring back at me. Under truck was all wet so drove it to our local garage and up on the hoist to check it out. The two tranny lines on the right side just ahead of the transmission are held together by a spring steel clip to keep them from vibrating and shaking. Well one of the lines had a hole in it from rubbing slightly on this clip which was also just about wore through. We cut the line, spliced a 1/2 inch hose on it with hose clamps, split a 1 inch hose and wraped it on the other line and tied them together with plastic tie wraps . That clip looks to be a bit of a design fault, so next time any of you fellows are under there, have a look at the clip if you have one because for a few pennys it could save you a lot of greif if your away from home on a trip ans spring a tranny fluid leak while pulling a load and dont realise it till its too late..

 

Mine has leaked from the clip before. Any way to improve on the clip design.

 

On mine, I slit 6" long pieces of heater hose and snapped them on over the lines anywhere they might chafe. then I cable tie the pieces on. works great!

 

I had a similar issue a while back, dodge dealer wanted like $167 for the line, i took it to a local line shop has a custom bent line with new bung brazed on and complete, identical to stock one for $35..I was going to replace it with hydro hose but after research some people suggested that it was a metal line for a reason, possibly for cooling issues...

 

If the line is in good shape I.E. not all rusted out, You can drain them and braze the hole where it chaffed through.

 

I just replaced all mine with hydraulic hose , I had a very hard time with the quick connect ends, no quick connects now , all JIC fittings.

 

Mine wore through at the front clip. I cut it off at the break and looped the rubber hose back from the other line bypassing the front cooler.
Haven't decided how I will make the permanent fix. Steel line are usually stronger than rubber hose and much less restriction.

 

you bypassed the cooler? your tranny will not last long!

 

Just bypassed the aux cooler in the grill. Still have the cooler on the engine. Not towing or hauling much these days.
