Timing question.

Got my KDP kit. While my friend, who is a diesel mechanic , is putting that in for me we wanted to bump the timing. Is there any information on how this is done ? He has a cummins but he said he's never advanced the timing. He just lined the pin up with the injection pump and set it to the factory settings. What is it timed at from the factory and what is needed to be done to take it to 15 -16 degrees or I see a few run 15.5 degree's. He's nut dumb but was just looking at some info so it's done correctly. Thanks in advance. Matt

Bumping the timing up requires about $200 worth of specialized tools.
Most times it's cheaper to have someone who has the tools do the timing.
Having the cover off to do the KDP is only a little advantage in doing the timing.

Easier to clean the shaft. Just pull the gear out and hose the bore, and hose the shaft with contact cleaner. No more trying to get the straw between the two.

I believe he would have most of the tools since he is a diesel mechanic with his own shop and tools but im not sure. He deals mostly with farm tractors and such but he also owns 2 dodge cummins diesel and has set the timing before but only to factory settings. Never advanced the timing. Is this a time consuming process to advance it?
