12 valve rebuild costs

well after 225k milles i believe my motor can use a rebuild. It leaks a lot of oil and also burns oil as well. It gets about 14 mpg highway and 12 towing i believe i can get a lot better than that. Also i towed my jeep with is a week ago and it was almost a struggle the whole time up any type of incline. Its a 96 5spd if that helps my main question for those who have had it done is what kind of cost am i looking at to have a complete motor rebuild. Im just loooking for prices on any kind of rebuild on a 12v that anyone has had done.

your motor would of had to of been hammered purdy hard to kill it at 225. I have over 700k. better check other things first oil leaks on an old engine are easy to stop. oil consumption could be the turbo seal or valve seals easy fix low power could be many things .
any how I bought a 12v rebuild master kit on E bay for $700 +-

I agree with above, 225 is fairly low as far as rebuilding! Any idea on the history of the truck/motor? Do you know for sure all the oil is burning off, not blowing out or just leaking?

If I were in your position, take the preliminary tests, compression and leakdown. Adjust valves, look at turbo, check vacuum pump, checking timing is not a bad idea.

My truck might burn a little oil, smokes a little on start up, and leaks a decent amount of oil. But it starts great, runs like a bat out of hell, and my undercarriage is easy to work on!

My '95 has 254,000 miles on it and it runs like new. But it's had excellent maintenance all it's life and very little abuse.

yea talked to a mechanic today and said it sounds like i need to have my pump checked with the list of problems i had he said it sounds like it could be something as simple as my pump adjustment... i thought 225k was a little low to have problems as well
