timing question
timing question
did my kdp timing slipped three times so i installed a new gear and now it is holding it runs and drives great but if u floor it while in neutral it pops and sputters a little with smoke and has quite a bit more blowbye than before while idling is this because of retarded timing when it slipped before it wasnt driveable it would just keep retarding more and more but it sputtered and popped and had excessive blowbye just like now my real concern is blowbye should this go away with correct timing before kdp it had very little blowbye any help would be appreciated this is going on a four week deal
Sorry man. It was all I had to offer on the subject.
Are you sure you're getting the timing set where you want it? And using the proper techniques? Wish I could be more help, but I've never dealt with it. I was lazy and had a shop time mine for me.
Good luck.

mine pops and sputters in nuetral too and i cant tell if its doing it while i get on it hard but i might be able to feel it a little. i think my problem is my fuel filter is clogged tho. my blowby is normal and i can rev slowly all the way to 3k wit no sputters but if i try to fuel harder it sputters bad. i hate it!
im off to cummins in the morning to get the timing set im sure its retarded just a bit before the kdp repair u could hold it to the floor anytime with no sputter and it had minimal blowbye it was doing it in first wot at higher rpms today but ran fine otherwise my old 96 did it while in nuetral too but only in higher rpms and never in gear so it never bothered me for 235k miles

fuel stop torque plate the one inside the injector pump used a drill to grind factory slide holes all the way to the bottom didnt just drill new holes obviously that wouldnt work this allows u to slide it forward maybe another half inch or so big difference in hp i do this instead of grinding the stop down it works great just got back from cummins and it was out of time but no luck it still does it they said its a fuel issue but it only does it in neutral while standing on it or slightly in first doing the same im tired of it just going to drive it harder and maybe i will blow it up i have a spare motor just setting in the shop
